How to Join the Southfield Public Schools Community
There are several ways to become a part of the Southfield Public Schools community:
- District Resident - Families that reside in the Southfield Public Schools boundaries.
- Schools of Choice - Once accepted through the Schools of Choice program, you may continue to attend Southfield Public Schools through graduation unless there is a break in enrollment. Transportation to and from school is not provided.
- Children of Southfield Public School District Employees - (Your paycheck must come from Southfield Public Schools) Once accepted you may continue to attend Southfield Public Schools through graduation as long as the parent is still employed by the district. Transportation to and from school is not provided.
The laws of Michigan state that a child's residence for educational purposes is with his/her parent/legal guardian.
Parent/Legal Guardian MUST provide the following Required Enrollment Documents:
A. Proof of Residency:

Current DTE bill parent/guardian name for your current address (or connection notices if you've just started service) If DTE is not in parent/guardian name you must present another utility (cellphone, cable or internet service)

Government issued Michigan License, State ID or Passport for parent/guardian
B. Students Documents:
- Original Birth Certificate
- Immunization Record
- Latest Report Card (for students entering 1st - 9th grade)
- Transcript (for student entering 10th – 12th grade)
- Disciplinary/Behavior Report for the previous school year (for students entering 1st grade)
- Disciplinary/Behavior Report For the previous 2 school years (for students entering 2nd – 12th grade)
- For Students Living With a Court Order Guardian: Current Court Ordered full Guardianship Documents
- Current IEP (for students receiving special education services)
- Completed School Of Choice Form (For Out of District Students)
Knowingly providing false information regarding your residence, including claiming to live at an address where you do not actually reside, constitutes a federal offense, and the district reserves the right to pursue legal action against both you and any individual whose address you are falsely using.
For Parents Residing with a Resident, you must upload the following:
- The Resident's (person you are residing with) current DTE bill
- The Resident's (person you are residing with) Government issued Michigan License, State ID or passport
- The parent/legal guardian's Government issued Michigan License, State ID or passport
- Notarized Affidavit must be completed and signed by the homeowner and the parent
School of Choice For 26/27 School Year:
Kindergarten through 12th grade (Wayne, Macomb, Lapeer, Genesee, Washtenaw, and Livingston County)
The Southfield Public Schools Board of Education has approved Schools of Choice (Section 105c) openings in kindergarten through 12th grade for contiguous counties [i.e., Lapeer County (northeast), Genesee County (northwest), Macomb County (east), Wayne County (southeast), Washtenaw County (southwest) and Livingston County (west)] for the 2026-27 school year. The application period is February 1, 2026 - August 21, 2026. The application will be available by clicking on the link listed below beginning February 1, 2026.

Kindergarten – 12th Grade (Oakland County)
The Southfield Public Schools Board of Education has approved Schools of Choice (Section 105) openings in
Kindergarten through 12th grade for Oakland County residents for the 2026-27 school year. The application period is February 1, 2026 - August 21, 2026. The application will be available by clicking on the link listed below beginning February 1, 2026.

Online Enrollment
Select Start a New Pre-Enrollment when starting your first enrollment. You will be required to create an account using an email address and creating a password
Select Continue a Pre-Enrollment in Progress to return to a started enrollment or to add another student.
PLEASE NOTE: Select the grade that your child will begin in the Fall, not the grade they are currently in.
When completing the online application:
- Student name must be the same as birth certificate
- Do not type everything in BOLD or Capital Letter
- Remember to Capitalize Names, example Jane Doe
- Parent/Guardian remember to add your phone number and email address when inputting your contact info
Attention Parents Enrolling for 26/27 school year - Kindergarten students MUST be five on or before December 1, 2026.
